Welcome back, DRVRs! 

Finally, a light news week. Don’t get me wrong. I love reporting on the automotive web3 sector. But sometimes it’s good to just kick on the cruise control and enjoy the reprieve.

That is unless you are the hard partying, papaya wearing, OKX repping, lead driver of the McLaren F1 team… I’m looking at you Lando!

Norris, was all gas and no brakes (figuratively speaking, of course) at the Miami GP this past weekend, where he finally took his first win in his F1 career!

We’d like to extend a hearty
congratulations to Lando Norris
on his first victory! (of many)

This brings us to the theme of today’s issue. The deepening relationship between Web3 and F1.

TODAY, Mercedes-Benz NXT is offering a free mint on Base via Farcaster to build excitement for their upcoming NXT Icons “The Era of Technology” NFT collection.

Veloce’s Bari Broumand and Nicolas Longuet secure a 1-2 win in the Round 11 Qatar, F1 eSports series. Watch the entire race here.

ApeCoin Finally Unveils their F1 Sponsorship - BWT Alpine F1 Team

Months ago I reported that the ApeCoin DAO had initiated a proposal to sponsor one of the top 6 teams in Formula 1, which eventually passed by a fairly large margin.

They remained tight-lipped about the team in question. I had my theory that they would replace the outgoing Crypto.com sponsorship of the Aston Martin team. Boy, was I wrong.

I should have seen the writing on the wall. “One of the teams in the TOP 6 of the 2023 constructor’s championship.” Six? That’s some random numeration. Well, it just so happens that Alpine was the 6th place finisher in the constructor’s championship. Doi!

I and probably many speculators were surprised to discover in the lead up to the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix that the honor went to the thoroughly French team. (As in, French MFG with two French drivers)

The announcement hit 𝕏 like Logan Sargeant hits walls. With a bang! (Too soon?)

In concert, Alpine and ApeCoin released the news, amping up Apes and F1 fans alike. Adding even more excitement within the web3 sphere for F1’s forray into the crypto world. And in one of the countries hotspots for the web3 industry, no less. Here are just a couple of the announcements.

I for one am glad to see these two fandoms coming together with such vigor and enthusiasm! Something tells me this is just the beginning.

That said, we will be inducting $APE as an honorary Automotive Web3 cryptocurrency, which we will track in our weekly Automotive Web3 Asset Performance charts, seen above.

How Big is Web3 in F1?

As fate would have it, I was just wrapping up my authoritative list of every web3 sponsor in F1 when the ApeCoin/Alpine news dropped.

You would be surprised just how much web3 representation there has been in the sport since 2021. To get an idea, give this a read.

This guide is far from set in stone, as sponsors come and go. I am even sure to have missed some sponsors from over the years. So, as new info arises, and overlooked sponsors come to my attention I will update it, so it continues to be the most authoritative list on the subject.
