Nissan never sold America a GT-R with a roof rack. Japan did it anyway.

Nissan looked at the Stagea, looked at the R33 GT-R parts bin, and decided luggage and ATTESA could share a chassis. Autech pulled RS Four shells, dropped in the RB26DETT, Super HICAS, Brembos, the whole all-wheel-drive party, and sent 1,734 of them into Japan as the 260RS. Enthusiasts still call it the GT-R wagon because the hardware is the hardware, and the roof just happens to work.

This one is a 1998 WGNC34, chassis 123719, gloss black, 157,010 km, sitting at RevHard in Denver for $48,000. Factory 260RS, not a late-night RB26 swap with a story attached. In stock, titled, ready to leave Colorado before somebody else decides they need a long roof that can still put down power.

Market Snapshot

GTR-registry, via Classic Register, puts the whole 260RS run at 1,734 cars (986 Series 1, 784 Series 2), and every one of them is 25-year legal in the US as of 2026. Hypercars.io comps live in the mid-$30ks: a 1997 sample of 11 sold out of 15 listings shows a median of $35,250 and a high of $53,878, with the most recent manual sale at $26,500 on June 30, 2026, while Hotcars’ rollup across BaT, Cars & Bids, Classic.com, and Hagerty lands near $37,365. This stays a collector wagon, not an R34, and more will show up now that the last 2001 cars cleared the rule, so $48k for a titled Denver car is the in-stock premium over those auction screenshots.

We all know the feeling. One clean pass, one dyno number, one Saturday that has to redeem the whole month. It looks sharp on the highlight reel. It leaves the rest of the chassis feeling brittle. Here’s what happens when you stop building for the screenshot and start building for the distance.

Aristotle said the good life is not a mood and not a trophy. In the Nicomachean Ethics it is an activity, done in accordance with virtue, over a complete life. One excellent hour does not make you excellent. The whole distance does.

Car people feel that in their bones and then act like the opposite is true. We train for the qualifying lap. We chase the one pass that has to justify the year. That is racing logic. Clean. Honest. Short.

A touring car is built for a different job. It still has to put power down. It still has to stop. It still has to tell the truth when the road gets ugly. But the point of the machine is the distance: people in the seats, fuel in the tank, a route that does not end at the first apex. Rally logic is survival at speed over a stage. Race logic is the shortest time around a known loop. Touring logic is staying assembled when the day is longer than the highlight.

Most of us stack the calendar until it looks impressive on paper, then wonder why everything feels one bad weekend from snapping. Aristotle’s point is not to go slow. It is to stop mistaking a peak for a life. Virtue, in his sense, is a habit. Habits only show up after the applause goes home.

So pick the job that matches the distance you actually have to cover. If your week is a stage in the woods, rally it: commit, then keep the car in one piece. If it is a known circuit with a clock, race it: fewer variables, more focus. If it is everything in between, which is most of life, tour it. Carry what you said you would carry. Keep the all-wheel drive of your attention on the road that is actually under you, not the one you will brag about later.

The complete life is not the fastest lap you can screenshot. It is still being in the seat when the sun goes down, with the same standards you had at the start.

Top Gear is coming back. The BBC still will not say who drives it.

BBC entertainment chief Ed Havard confirmed at Edinburgh that Top Gear returns after the 2022 Flintoff crash put the show on ice. No format. No hosts. Jimmy Carr is already in the rumor mill because he once topped the Reasonably Priced Car board, which is a casting brief and a bit. The Clarkson rule still applies: they have to make a show the BBC hates, or they will make a show nobody watches.
